Our Story

You know that feeling of coming back from vacation?

The one that makes you question what you’re doing and why you’re doing it? All too often we felt that. Whether it be returning from Nantucket, Door County or Saugatuck we felt this longing for a simpler, more authentic way of living. And to us there’s no better place to find that life than western Michigan. 

So we took the leap, and bought the best/worst cottage we could find in an effort to build something of our own. But not from scratch mind you. We wanted to take something and turn back the clock while thinking of our family’s future. It was addicting. In saving this cottage we created something more lasting. A love for thoughtful design, careful renovation and for an area that we found full of life and creativity. 

Over the past 10 years we have restored decrepit cottages that no one wanted, helped local businesses thrive and increased tourism through national press. What started out as a way to create beautiful spaces and memories for our family, has turned into an opportunity for us to open our doors to others.
